Erotica
Bye Bye Baby

"Fever" is a song by Madonna from her fifth studio album Erotica. It was released as the fourth single from the album on 11 May 1993

Background[]

Initially the last subject of the Erotica album was going to be "Goodbye to Innocence". Based on feedback from Shep Pettibone in the Journal of Erotica, he used some instruments for the recording of "Goodbye to Innocence" while Madonna was dedicated to hum the chorus of "Fever". Both were put to think and immediately decided to replace the recording of "Goodbye to Innocence" with "Fever". Finally, this initial song was donated to the special album "Just Say Roe" and as a B-Side of "Rain" called "Up Down Suite". The version of "Fever" recorded by Madonna is very different from all they knew so far, with a very dance sound and a sensual style that fits well on the album.

Composition[]

Madonna changed the composition of the original version by adding a TR-909 house sequence with the snare drums pitched and edited to emulate a beatbox sound at the tempo of 116BPM (similar to Vogue). Removing the chord progression of the original, Madonna introduces original lyrics into the song.

In the Girlie Show, the arrangement uses the "Edit One" remix as a base while using the drums from the original recording accompanied by several samples from the latter.

The instrumental of the original recording was also used as an interlude for the Celebration Tour which consists of Bob The Drag Queen reciting a dialogue about the 90's written by Madonna herself. While the initial recording of "Goodbye To Innocence" known as "Up Down Suite" was used as a dancer interlude for the same tour played by Madonna's daughter Estere on the DJ Booth before transitioning to "Vogue".

Lyrics[]

You give me
you give me fever
Never know how much i love you
never know how much i care
when you put your arms around me
i get a fever that's so hard to bear
listen to me baby, hear every word i say
no one can love you the way i do
'cause they don't know how to love you my way

You give me fever, when you kiss me
fever when you hold me tight
fever in the morning
fever all through the night
Sun lights up the daytime
moon lights up the night
my eyes light up when you call my name
'cause i know you're gonna treat me right
bless my soul i love you, take this heart away
take these arms i'll never use
and just believe in what my lips have to say

Everybody's got the fever
that is something you should know
fever isn't such a new scene
fever started long ago
You give me fever, fever
you give me, you give me fever

Romeo loved juliet juliet, she felt the same when he put his arms around her he said julie baby, you're my flame he gave her fever Sun lights up the daytime moon lights up the night my eyes light up when you call my name 'cause i know you're gonna treat me right
